Phonics

Each day we have a 15 minute dedicated phonics time where we listen to the sounds that a letter makes and look at how to form that letter.
So far we have covered l, t, o, s, m, r, w, h.

The emphasis is on the sound the letter makes e.g. "l", "l" lemon

                                                                                  "t", "t" tiger

Studyladder

I have just joined Room 1 up for Studyladder!

Studyladder is an online english literacy & mathematics learning tool.

When I heard other teachers talking about Studyladder, I initially thought it would be too advanced for new entrant children, but having had my 5 year old granddaughter Mena to stay on Friday night and watching her on the program, I had to change my mind.

At home you just need to Google Studyladder.

I will paste each childs Username and password into their notebooks.

Have fun!

Discovery Learning

On Friday morning we started our Discovery Learning sessions.

These might seem like play to the children and hopefully they are good fun, but they are also an excellent way to cover and explain the Key Competencies with junior children.

Last week we were looking at the Key Competency – Relating to Others.

This as the name would suggest includes such things as:

Sharing, taking turns, cooperating, asking to join in, including

others, handling conflict, helping & supporting others, respecting others, establishing relationships.

As you can see these are all things we value in our classrooms and are important to establish at this time of year.

Swimming

Can you spot youe child amongst these water babes?

20013

Hi Everyone,
We are having a great start to the new year.
Tina Johnson had the children in great routines during the first few days which made it very easy for me when I came back.
As always we have an open door policy at Frankley School, and this along with being in partnership with you as parents to do the best for your children, is what makes teaching at Frankley so enjoyable and rewarding.
Often a few words before or after school are just as important for New Entrants and their parents as the organised interview time. For a longer chat Tuesdays or Thursdays after school are usually better for me as I have meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Parent helpers are always welcome in the class room but bear in mind how well your child has settled into the class room before you volunteer, as a child who is still uncertain about leaving you can be quite clingy in the class room, making helping others next to impossible and perhaps detrimental to the settling process.
With this wonderful weather we are swimming every afternoon. This year we are focusing on confidence in the water. We have always done this but after a visit from Cecile of STATE Swimming New Zealand we have been encouraged to put a n even greater emphasis on this aspect.
